How we meet the CMA Funerals Order

The Competition and Markets Authority's Funerals Market Investigation Order 2021 sets out a number of requirements designed to make funeral pricing and ownership clear to the bereaved. Below is exactly how we meet each one.

  • Display a Standardised Price List prominently in the funeral home and online

Published in full on our pricing page with both an attended and an unattended funeral option, and downloadable as a PDF. A printed copy is displayed in our office and a copy will be given to anyone who asks.
  • Display an Additional Options Price List

Available on the pricing page as a downloadable PDF and in print at our office. Covers coffins, vehicles, flowers, orders of service and any other extras you may wish to add.
  • Display the Crematoria Operators price list

We publish the price list of the crematoria we most often use, alongside our own prices, on our pricing page. This gives families full visibility of the third-party fees that make up part of any funeral cost.
  • Make the Standardised Price List available to anyone who asks, before they commit

We give a copy of the Standardised Price List to every family before any arrangements are agreed. Telephone callers are also told the price of an attended and an unattended funeral on first contact, and we are happy to post a copy.
  • Provide a written, itemised estimate before any contract is signed

Every family receives a written estimate, itemising our charges and any third-party fees ("disbursements"), before they are asked to commit. The figure given to you in writing is the figure you pay unless you ask us to change something.
  • Disclose ownership of the funeral business

Our ultimate owner page sets out, in plain English, that Whitfield & Sons is part of the Beverley Funerals Limited group, and what that means for the families we serve.
  • Disclose any commercial or financial interest in another business in the funeral chain (e.g. crematorium, burial ground, care home, hospice)

We have no such interests. We do not own, part-own, or receive any payment from any crematorium, cemetery, burial ground, care home, hospice or coroner's office. See our disclosure page.
  • Do not solicit business at hospitals, hospices, care homes, coroners' offices or similar settings

We never approach families at the point of bereavement. We only act for families who contact us directly, or who have been recommended to us by a family member or friend.
  • Do not pay or receive referral fees

We do not pay any third party for the introduction of a family, and we will not accept payment for referring a family to any other business. The only commission we receive is from Golden Charter for pre-paid plans introduced through us, which is fully disclosed on our disclosure page and never affects the price you pay.
  • Provide a back-up arrangement if the funeral firm is unable to fulfil its obligations

Through our membership of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), arrangements would be put in place to ensure any funeral in our care could continue without disruption.
